About the Author

Keith Bernhard began writing when he was in eighth grade.

In high school Keith wrote a collection of 13 horror short stories.

In college he began The Six Stones, a high fantasy novel which is still unfinished, but neither forgotten nor abandoned.

Since college (he graduated in 1978 from Clark University with a BA in English & Philosophy, and then again in 1980 with an MA in Linguistics) Keith has continued to write in various forms (short story, novel, play), but contextually mostly in the horror, fantasy, and mystery genres.

His published works are Let Sleeping Dogs, a dark thriller peppered with more than a share of dark humor, and Urns & Other Short Stories, a varied collection spanning his favorite genres – horror, fantasy, and mystery.

As with any author, there are more unfinished projects than there are finished; however, that being said, like radioactive particles, his early forays keep resurfacing and morphing into new projects.

While no manuscripts remain from his high school horror stories, some of the nightmares do, and at least five short stories will result.

The Six Stones has birthed several short stories, including one children’s short story, incorporating ancient races and an ever expanding geography. The over-arching mythology of the peoples in that mythology is and will continue to be a bottomless creative idea pool for Keith.

Why those genres?

In no order they are all equally guilty: Edgar Allan Poe. J.R.R. Tolkien. Rod Serling. Richard Matheson. Roger Corman (yup!). Rex Stout. Robert Bloch. H.P. Lovecraft. Charles Baudelaire. Carl Hiaasen. Shirley Jackson. Honoré Balzac. Charles Brockton Brown. Jerzy Kosinski. Ursula K. LeGuinn. Peter Straub. Stan Lee. Jack Kirby.

What did Keith do after getting his MA in Linguistics?

A year as a reporter & editor in Worcester, Massachusetts. Five or six years in advertising in NYC (copywriting & account management). Twenty years selling his soul on Wall Street in institutional sales & management. Owning and operating a restaurant for a year. Director of Financial Planning & Analysis for an event company for two years. Seven years as Director of New Business Development for a distance learning company.

Retired in 2017.

Since 2017 Keith has been writing his ass off.

Keith Bernhard lives in New York City with his wife, Jodi, Ella Bear the Black Lab, and Tufnel & St. Hubbins the rescue cats. He has three children – Kat, Morgan & Brian, and two granddaughters – Anna Rose & Maggie Grace.
